A Gynaecological ultrasound is a scan which assesses the pelvic area and the reproductive organs.
We can use it to examine your uterus, the womb lining and both ovaries, so that we can look for any possible causes of symptoms you may have been experiencing.

Is the Gynaecology (Pelvic) Examination right for you?
Possible reasons why you may choose to have a Gynacological ultrasound are as follows:
To assess Fertility if you are undergoing (or about to undergo) Fertility treatment
To monitor a condition which you may have already been diagnosed with, such as PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome), Endometriosis or Fibroids in the uterus
To check for polyps, fibroids or cysts when you have been having specific symptoms, such as pelvic pain or irregular bleeding
Assessing when you are ovulating to help with conception
Detect and locate an IUCD/Coil (if you have one)
How is the Gynaecology (Pelvic) Examination carried out?
Gynaecology ultrasound is routinely performed using both transabdominal and transvaginal probes, as this is the optimum way of viewing the pelvic anatomy.
There is no clinical risk to having an internal scan (transvaginal scan) and it can also be undertaken during menstruation.
