Concerns
If You’ve Had a Fall or A Bump
Pregnancy not only changes the shape of your body, but also changes the way you walk.
Because your centre of gravity adjusts, this can cause you to have difficulty maintaining your balance. With that in mind, approximately 27% of women experience a fall during their pregnancy. Fortunately, baby is very well protected in the womb, surrounded by cushioning amniotic fluid and the strong muscles of the uterus. In the majority of cases, a minor fall won’t be enough to cause a problem to you or baby.
But there are some things to be aware of that indicate you may need medical attention:
- You had a fall which resulted in a direct blow to your stomach
- You’re leaking amniotic fluid and/or vaginal bleeding
- You’re experiencing severe pain in the pelvis, stomach or uterus
- You’re starting to have contractions
- You notice your baby isn’t moving as often
